Job Description


The Coding Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate assignment of ICD-10 diagnosis codes and CPT procedure codes to medical charts.



  1. Assigns and enters data for appropriate insurance codes, ICD-10 and CPT codes


  1. Maintains a benchmark of 15 charts an hour for pro-fee coding and 10 an hour for facility coding


  1. Maintains quality assurance standard of 95% accuracy


  1. Coding must be performed consistently and within the time period(s) established by management


  1. Responsible for maintaining their certification CEU’s.


  1. Maintain confidentiality of patient chart, medical information and physician information including profiles and fees


  1. Other duties as assigned




To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities.


  • Successful completion of CPT and ICD-10 coding class; Coding certification required.
  • Strong data entry skills; alpha and numeric
  • High degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail required
  • Ability to meet high volume production standards while maintaining accuracy standards
  • Ability to interact with tact and diplomacy with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Demonstrated PC skills, i.e. proficient with MS Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
