The schedule for this Full Time role is Friday - Monday 8 AM-7 PM.    POSITION OVERVIEW: The purpose of this position is to connect uninsured hospital patients to programs that will cover their medical expenses. It is the primary responsibility of the Claims Specialist to ensure that claims are submitted timely, that they are processed accurately and, if required, denied services are appealed appropriately.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Review and research insurance claims to determine possible payment source(s). - Contact various sources including insurance professionals, patients, and other parties to verify relevant data. - Coordinate with payors to ensure appropriate filing guidelines are met for reimbursement.  - Request appropriate information, both verbally and written, from appropriate parties to ensure proper claim disposition.  - Maintain and update payors on denied claims. - Ensure that appropriate billing guidelines and standards are met based on payor and/or State. - Perform persistent follow up on unresolved claims and facilitate payment from appropriate payors. - Responsible for obtaining claim status and gathering supporting documentation to submit appeals. - Assist with written or verbal appeals to payors on denied claims.  - Assist in defending the hospital’s or medical provider’s rights to recovery against insurance companies. - Interact with hospital staff members to obtain appropriate documentation for claims and appeals submission. - Other duties as assigned.   QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Answers phone calls from patients, guarantors, and insurance companies. - Researches accounts to provide correct balance, payment, and insurance information, as well as educate callers regarding insurance billing and payment options. - Recognizes and resolves insurance and billing errors. - Brings patient’s accounts to resolution via immediate payment in full, setting up payment plans, post-dating payments, finding insurance, or offering settlements or discounts, as well as recognize appropriate reasons for patients to dispute balances. - Keeps informed and up to date on the proper procedures and protocols for each of our providers. - Makes outbound calls to patients or guarantors regarding the collection of past due balances as well as to advise them of information given to us by their insurance or the provider regarding their accounts. - Work as a Collector to settle out of patient pocket expenses with patients and negotiate settlements for larger account balances. - Documents all work performed in accurate and concise manner according to MedData best practices. - Handles all calls with efficiency and accuracy as well as exceptional customer service. - Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
